As teenagers we would go down to Moonlight Gardens. That was down at Coney- way before the Sunlite Pool was built. Big bands would come and play and there would be dancing. The biggest event was when Stan Kenton and his band came and played for a week. I went there every night he was in town. I guess that was about 1951 or 52. If you spent $20.00 a night- you would be considered a big spender. That meant admission, refreshments, everything.


My mother would take me downtown to Pogue's. That was THE big department store - I guess like Sak's is now. Anyway, she would get a call from one of the ladies who worked in the store when some new girls' dresses came in and off we'd go. We got all dressed up. My mother had her dresses made downtown, too. We always wore gloves, white gloves to go downtown.
